You manage to get to the heart of funny things in a way that is deceptively simple. It feels like anyone could do it, and then one tries...and fails...repeatedly. And you repeatedly succeed.

Let's put that Herculean feat into the proper perspective. I've known guys who lived to be 78 years old and never produced 78 total jokes in their entire lives...To do it in one day is simply incredible.

The great thing about the Dan Quayle joke above is that, if you got the joke back in 1992, then you still chuckle at it today...It hasn't lost a bit of its power after all these years. It's not unlike the Elizabeth Taylor/Larry Fortensky joke that you wrote. In both cases, you've managed to tap into something essential about the person's legacy. You write jokes that become timeless...

Bill that must be grind of love to put those jokes out daily. I was watching an episode of HBO's "Bored To Death" and Jim Jarmusch, as himself , said this to Jason Schwartzman as Johnathan Ames " You must suffer from the terrifying clarity of your vision " , and I immediately thought about you. Keep on banging them out, you are a genius.
