    Hey Bill,

Good luck in Motor City! I just wanted to let you know I've been following your blog and that it appears I'm a slow healer with my new hip.

Also - I didn't want to use your email address because I got what appears to be a money scam using your email address. I thought you should know!

    Talk soon and take care!

    Todd

Jimney Freaking Christmas Bill I feel like I have been on a acid trip just reading this stuff, I look at your blog... nothing new...look a little later ... 13 comments and a trip around the world and a plea from some guy wanting money. I knew your blog was fun but this is too much. I need a drink and a smoke, and I quit both ! Good luck in The Motor City...calm down ( I am talking to myself.)

Your Yahoo account has been compromised, Bill... I forwarded you the message that is being sent out from your account. Of course, someone has your password and they can simply delete that email before you get to see it. Thankfully, they can't delete this message from your blog. Here's the message:

I hope you receive my message? And is very urgent. I could bearly think straight at this point. I had a trip here in United Kingdom on a mission. I am presently in Sheffield and I am having some difficulties. I misplaced my bag on my way to the hotel where other valuable things were kept along with my passport. I feel so ashamed because i am so stranded and idle. I will like you to help me with a loan of 1200 pounds to pay my hotel bills and also return back home. I will refund the money to you as soon as I get back, I have spoken to the embassy here but they are not responding to the matter effectively I
currently have limited access to emails for now.

    Best regard
    Bill Scheft

Obviously, no one who knows Bill Scheft (THE WRITER) would fall for this infantile message from someone who "does not the English speak so good." But...they still have your Yahoo password, buddy. CHANGE YOUR YAHOO PASSWORD, BILL! Do it now, buddy. There's no telling how many people from your contacts list this was sent to...

    Jim...

Yes, this is exactly the message I received in my Inbox. Thanks a lot Toast! Any of us who know Bill, know that this is bogus.

Hope you haven't lost anything or have been otherwise compromised Bill!

    All the best....

    Everything is okay, Todd.
What is going on with the hip? Don't forget, you had severe AVN.
  • The_Toast_in_the_Machine · 1 month ago
I don't think anyone who knows Bill would fall for this, Todd. But sometimes their are panicky, elderly people on someone's contact list, or someone who DOESN'T know (for whatever reason) that there is no way "THE" Bill Scheft wrote this goofy message... As an old gambler, Bill understands that these scammers make their money by playing the odds. If you throw enough shit against the wall, some of it is going to stick...And it doesn't cost them a dime to try. The bad part is that, whether or not anyone falls for this, someone has Bill's Yahoo password. That's just a creepy fuckin' feeling...

    Thanks, Toast.
I knew it was fucked up. Everything went to crap two hours ago. I contacted Yahoo mail and told them my account had been compromised. Now it's frozen for 24 hours. How can I change my Yahoo password on a frozen account?
  • The_Toast_in_the_Machine · 1 month ago
Did you contact them by phone? I've heard other people say that their accounts were frozen until they contacted Yahoo by phone and the account info was verified...But at least if it's frozen for you, it's also frozen for "them."

By the way, at this point, don't believe anything you receive in your Yahoo mail that may "look" like it came from Yahoo... Call 'em, buddy. Here are the numbers I found: Tel: (408) 349-3300 Phone (408) 731-3300 Office Hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST)

Here's what Yahoo says about a lockout:
f you receive a message stating that your account has been locked for security reasons, this means that there have been too many attempts to sign in to your account with the incorrect password. As a security measure, your account has been locked to prevent unauthorized users from being able to access it.

If you haven't been trying to sign in to your account with the wrong password, this is not necessarily cause for concern. It could simply be the result of another user mistakenly thinking that your ID is theirs. (To learn more about account security, please visit the Yahoo! Security Center.)

The lock on your account will expire 24 hours after it was initially locked—the lockout period will not reset each time you attempt to sign in while the account is still locked. You can try to sign in again after the lock has expired. We are unable to provide you with the exact time that your account was locked or when it will be unlocked.

If you are still unable to sign in with your new password, please refer to our password problems help page for common reasons why you may be getting an "Invalid Password" error.

But, obviously, someone did get your password.

    Hope this helps...

    Good luck, Bill!

Just challenge the bastards to a spelling bee... I'll bet they can "bearly" wait for THAT. (If you're anything like me, you can't remember if you listed "Bladerunner" or "A Clockwork Orange" as your favorite movie.) I know I wrote that shit down around here somewhere... :(

Let us know how everything is going.

    Bill,
I think you meant September 1985 when referring to your first time at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle. People Express never made it to 2005.
I remember that loaner jacket. I can't remember if we worked together that week or just played golf.
